Tey Yi Fan

I spend my time thinking about mathematics and philosophy. In the past, I’ve also dedicated some time to studying physics, astronomy, and (less seriously) economics and chess.

On this site, I publish materials which I’ve produced to help others in the past. In making them public, I hope you’ll find something of value for you too!

Most of the materials are related to my training of the physics and astronomy competition teams of HCI JC students. Some materials related to philosophy will be coming soon.

Saying hi from Singapore!

What do I do?

I’ve been a fan of higher mathematics for most of my life, and am still actively pursuing it with a view towards research some day. My main interests lie in algebraic topology and differential topology, and related topics such as homological algebra and category theory.

I also spend time thinking about philosophy. My main work is in the intersection between Western phenomenology and Eastern religious traditions (particularly Buddhism), with a view towards developing methodologies for applications in broader philosophical contexts, particularly ethics. I often also think about other miscellaneous topics with a more practical view, particularly ideas related to education and pedagogy, and the mental health system in Singapore.

On a more practical note, I’m also currently involved in helping juniors in training for the Singapore Physics Olympiad. I’ve been training HCI’s team since 2023, and will be until the end of 2024 too, when I hope to pass on the torch to other trainers!

Chess

Chess formed a big part of the happy memories I have of my days in high school. It’s been a significant part of my life since 2019, when a friend first introduced me to it!

Just for fun, here are some happy memories from games I was proud of winning against very memorable players, albeit in meaningless 1+0 bullet online.

GM Praveen Thipsay

First Indian player to win a GM norm

Croatian CM Antonio Radić

Chess YouTuber agadmator

GM Jaan Ehlvest

Former world #5 (2660 peak rating)
